Rejecting the past and neglecting the present, futurists welcomed the scientific progress and the advances of technology that approached the future in quantum leaps – away from the burden of tradition and outdated values. The new world does not indulge in sentiment, romance, love and other absurd complications.

Instead you get the speed, the dynamics, strict logics and pure reasoning. Futurist urban landscape presents the city in a totally peculiar way. To convey the dynamics and the restlessness of the human beehive, the artists resorted to the respectively selected forms – zigzags, spirals, oblique cylinders etc. Another distinctive feature is the simultanism principle, when the artists merged different views of an object at different points of time, as if mixed-up elements of the same photoscript. It was a development on the cubist approach when several elements of an object, each represented from a different perspective, were juxtaposed in one painting. That’s the reason you won’t see and enjoy the cosy townhouses, the green of the trees and the sunlight playing in the morning dew. Instead of the traditional prettyism of a landscape you will breathe in the power, the steam and the motion of an industrial city. Your eyes will rest on the lofty spires, the skyscrapers and bridge pillars reaching for the sky, the robotic people that you can’t tell from machines. There is more to a futurist landscape – you will actually hear the city! Futurists put great effort into representing the sounds through artistic devices, they introduced it into the names of their paintings, so listen to the honks, the sirens, whistles and whisper of the tyres… You will still see occasional villages – that will definitely happen in motion, from the window of a train taking you away from this ridiculous atavism.
