Avant-garde artists came from the generation who saw and lived the horror, the chaos and desperation of the two world wars, economic depressions and other saucy experiences of the 20th century. Some of them tried to escape the reality into the worldof visions and hallucinations, the subconscious field (surrealism), and some of them savoured the agony and infliction of a modern man (expressionism). Some of them stayed put and tried to find the grains of logics, some law and reason in the chaos of the wartime, broke the world into pieces to find the hidden essence, the order a man needs to feel safe (cubism), the framework of every man and thing in the world that stays unchanged regardless of time and movement (futurism).
